What is TAM?

Our Mission Statement

The Texas Association of Mediators is a statewide, interdisciplinary organization whose Mission is to provide leadership and education in the field of mediation, and valued benefits to the organization's Members.

Our Strategic Goals

  • Promote and encourage the use of mediation.
  • Promote cooperation and communication among organizations and individuals that affect ADR.
  • Promote the ethical practice of mediation. (see note below about the grievance procedure)
  • Sponsor and promote professional development for mediators.

What is Unique about TAM?

  1. Mediator Locator - anyone visiting the TAM website can locate TAM mediators in a specific county or find a TAM mediator by name.
  2. Multidisciplinary Organization - members are professionals in accounting, business, counseling, education, engineering, law, medicine, public affairs, social work and a variety of other fields.
  3. Membership Requirements - to be a full member of TAM a mediator must have completed a 40-hour basic mediation course and conducted at least 100 hours of mediation.
  4. Continuing Education - members must complete 12 hours of continuing education a year and the TAM annual conference offers from 9.5 to 10.5 hours of continuing education a year.
  5. Bilingual Project - TAM member Clara Gomez has developed and produced a bilingual brochure which explains mediation in Spanish and English. Brochures are available to TAM members to use.
